Circle prints with cups

Use round objects like cups to stamp circle prints and notice that a circle is round with no corners.

A circle is a round shape with no corners at all. Cups, lids, and cans are round, so they make great circle stamps.

Dip the rim of a cup in paint, then press it onto paper. Lift straight up to see your circle print.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Pour a thin layer of paint onto a plate so dipping is easy and not too messy.
  • Try a few different round objects: cups, lids, the bottom of a cup, a roll of tape.
  • Ask whether it has corners after every new shape they try, to build the vocabulary.
  • Let the prints overlap and layer. Overlapping circles can look like bubbles or flowers.
Talk about it:
  • What shape did the cup make?
  • Does a circle have corners?
  • What other round things could we stamp with?

Mastery looks like: They can stamp a clean circle print and explain that a circle has no corners.

Common stumbles: Sliding the cup instead of pressing straight down and up, which smears the print.
