Forming the letters g-l

Form the lowercase letters g, h, i, j, k, and l correctly, starting each one at the top.

Six more letters this week: g, h, i, j, k, and l. Some are tall, some have dots, and one has a curved tail that dips below the line.

Remember to start at the top for almost every letter, and go slowly enough to make each stroke on purpose.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • This week covers g, h, i, j, k, and l. Notice that g and j both dip a tail below the writing line, which feels new.
  • Show your child a line on the page (or draw one) so they can see letters like g and j hang below it.
  • Do not skip the dots on i and j. Dots are added last, after the line is drawn.
  • Mix review of last week letters (a-f) into practice so earlier letters do not get rusty.
Talk about it:
  • Which letter this week has a tail that dips below the line?
  • Which is easier, i or k? Why?
  • Can you write all six letters from this week in a row?

Mastery looks like: They form g, h, i, j, k, and l with correct starting points, letting the tails of g and j dip below the line.

Common stumbles: Forgetting the dot on i or j; keeping the tail of g or j on the line instead of below it; making k from the bottom up.
