Forming the letters a-f

Form the lowercase letters a, b, c, d, e, and f correctly, starting each one at the top.

Every letter is made from a few simple moves: straight lines and curves. This week you learn six letters: a, b, c, d, e, and f.

Go slowly. Start each letter at the top. A letter written the same way every time gets easier and faster.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • This week covers a, b, c, d, e, and f. Work on two or three letters a day rather than all six at once.
  • Say the strokes out loud as your child writes: curve, then down, for a. The words help the hand remember the pattern.
  • Notice that a, c, d, e, and several other letters all start with the same curve. Once that curve feels easy, several letters get easier at once.
  • A wobbly letter that starts in the right place and goes the right direction is a win. Smoothness comes with practice.
Talk about it:
  • Which of these six letters feels easiest to you?
  • Which letter do you want to practice again tomorrow?
  • Can you find any of these letters on a cereal box or a sign?

Mastery looks like: They form a, b, c, d, e, and f starting at the correct point and moving in the correct direction, without a model to copy.

Common stumbles: Starting a curve on the wrong side; making the line in b or d the wrong height; forming letters bottom-to-top.
