Write a 2-word phrase

Combine two words into a short phrase that makes sense together, with a space between them.

A phrase is two or more words that go together, like "big dog" or "red hat." This week you write your very own two-word phrases.

Pick a naming word, like dog, then add a word that describes it, like big. Together: big dog.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Model a few phrases out loud first: green grass, loud dog, soft blanket. Let your child hear the pattern.
  • Encourage a word that truly describes the naming word, not a random word next to it.
  • Check that there is one clear space between the two words, using last week spacer trick if needed.
  • Have fun with silly phrases too, as long as they still make sense, like purple pig.
Talk about it:
  • What two-word phrase did you write today?
  • What does the first word in your phrase tell us?
  • Can you think of a phrase for something in this room right now?

Mastery looks like: They write a two-word phrase where the words make sense together, with a correct space between them.

Common stumbles: Writing two unrelated words that do not go together; forgetting the space; reversing the order so the phrase sounds odd.
