Fall changes walk

Observe and describe at least two real signs of the fall season on an outdoor walk.

The seasons change through the year, and each season has its own signs. Fall is a season when the air often turns cooler and many trees change color and drop their leaves. Signs of fall are all around you if you look closely.

A season is a long pattern, not just one day's weather. One cool day does not mean fall has arrived, but many cool days in a row, plus other clues, tell you the season is changing.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Take a real walk outside together and let your child lead the noticing.
  • Collect one leaf, acorn, or pinecone to bring home and talk about later.
  • Compare today's walk to what a summer walk looked and felt like.
  • Introduce the idea that a season is a long pattern of many days, not one single day.
Talk about it:
  • What colors did you see on the leaves?
  • Is the air warmer or cooler than it was in summer?
  • What do you think animals do to get ready for colder weather?

Mastery looks like: They name at least two real signs of fall change they observed outdoors, such as leaf color or cooler air.

Common stumbles: Treating one day's weather as proof of a season change; not looking closely enough to notice small signs.
