Dress-for-weather sorting

Sort clothing items into the weather they match, and explain why each item fits that weather.

People dress differently depending on the weather to stay safe and comfortable. A heavy coat keeps you warm on a cold day. Sunglasses protect your eyes on a bright sunny day. A raincoat keeps you dry when it rains.

This week you use everything you learned about weather words and temperature to make real choices about what to wear.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Pull real clothing from the closet and sort it into piles together: sunny, rainy, cold, windy.
  • Ask "why" after every sort: "Why does this item go with rainy days?"
  • Let your child pick tomorrow's outfit based on the weather chart from week 1.
  • Talk about a time you or they wore the wrong clothing for the weather, and what happened.
Talk about it:
  • Why do we wear a coat in the cold?
  • What would happen if you wore shorts in the snow?
  • What is your favorite weather to dress for?

Mastery looks like: They correctly sort at least six clothing items into matching weather categories and explain one reason.

Common stumbles: Sorting by color or favorite item instead of by weather function; forgetting the rain-gear category.
