Living-things poster

Create a poster about one living thing that correctly names at least three of its real needs.

This week you finish the unit with a project: a poster about one living thing, showing what it needs to survive. You get to choose the plant or animal.

A good poster does more than show a picture. It also names the real needs of that living thing, like food, water, air, and shelter, or light and water for a plant.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Gather paper and crayons and let your child choose the subject of the poster.
  • Help sound out or write the need labels if your child cannot yet write independently.
  • Ask "is that a need or a want?" if an item on the poster seems off, like a toy.
  • Display the finished poster somewhere the family will see it.
Talk about it:
  • Which living thing did you choose, and why?
  • What are its three needs?
  • What did you learn this month that surprised you?

Mastery looks like: They produce a poster or clear description naming a specific living thing and correctly listing at least three of its real needs.

Common stumbles: Listing wants, like toys, instead of true needs; forgetting shelter or air alongside food and water.
