Read to a Stuffed-Animal Audience

Perform a favorite book aloud with expression for a low-pressure audience, building confidence and fluency.

This week your audience does not talk back or judge a single mistake: a favorite stuffed animal or two. Set them up in a row and read to them like a real performer.

Use a big, clear voice and some expression. A stuffed-animal audience is the perfect place to practice sounding proud and confident.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let your child pick the book and set up the audience without much help. The ownership is part of the fun.
  • Encourage a big voice and some expression, more like a performer than a quiet reader.
  • Watch quietly rather than correcting every small slip. Confidence matters most this week.
  • Give real applause at the end, just like for any other performance.
Talk about it:
  • Which book did you perform today?
  • How did it feel to read out loud to an audience that never judges?
  • Would you like to perform for a real person next?

Mastery looks like: They read a familiar book aloud with confidence and some expression for a low-pressure audience.

Common stumbles: Reading in a flat, quiet voice instead of a confident performance voice; rushing through just to finish instead of enjoying the performance.
