Our Home Rules, Together

Help create simple household rules and explain why the group agreed to at least one of them.

At school, kids and teachers often make class rules together. Your home can have rules that you help make too.

When you help make a rule, you understand it better, and it feels more fair.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Actually make a simple "Our Home Rules" poster together this week with three or four rules your child helps choose.
  • Let your child's real suggestions shape at least one final rule, even if you guide the wording.
  • Hang the finished rules chart somewhere visible, like the kitchen.
  • Revisit the chart calmly later in the week: "Remember, we agreed on this rule together."
Talk about it:
  • What rule did you help make?
  • Why is it a good rule for our home?
  • Is there a rule you would want to change?

Mastery looks like: They contribute at least one reasonable rule idea and can explain why it matters.

Common stumbles: Suggesting a rule that only benefits themselves is common and a fine starting point; gently steer toward rules that help the whole family.
