Family Jobs: Everyone Helps

Identify jobs and chores that family members do, including a job the child does themselves.

Every family member helps in some way. Grown-ups might cook, clean, or go to work. Kids help too, even in small ways, like picking up toys or feeding a pet.

When everyone helps, the whole family runs more smoothly. Helping is not just for grown-ups.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Make a real family job chart together and let your child pick one new job to try this week.
  • Praise specific helping, not just general good behavior: "Thank you for feeding the dog" instead of just "good job."
  • Point out your own family jobs out loud as you do them, so your child sees helping in action.
  • Keep the first kid job small and doable, like putting away shoes or setting a napkin at the table.
Talk about it:
  • What job do you do to help your family?
  • What job would you like to try next?
  • Why does it matter that everyone helps, even a little?

Mastery looks like: They can name at least one real job they personally do to help the family, plus one job a grown-up does.

Common stumbles: Saying "I do not do anything" is common at first; naming even one tiny real task builds the idea that everyone contributes.
