Thank a Helper

Create a thank-you card for a chosen community helper that names a specific reason for the thanks.

Helpers work hard to keep us safe, healthy, and taken care of. This week you will say thank you to one helper by making a card.

A good thank-you names the specific thing you are grateful for, not just "thank you" alone.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Help your child choose a real helper to thank and make an actual card this week.
  • Encourage a specific reason on the card, not just a generic "thank you."
  • If possible, actually deliver or mail the card to a real helper, like a teacher, mail carrier, or fire station.
  • Talk about how the helper might feel receiving the card.
Talk about it:
  • Why did you choose that helper to thank?
  • How do you think they will feel getting your card?
  • What is one thing every helper you have learned about has in common?

Mastery looks like: They can name a specific reason for thanking a chosen helper and create a card that expresses it.

Common stumbles: Writing a generic "thank you" without a specific reason is common at first; asking "thank you for WHAT, exactly?" usually draws out the real detail.
