Mail Carriers and Drivers

Describe what mail carriers do and name a type of driver and what that driver moves.

Mail carriers deliver letters and packages to homes and businesses. Drivers, like bus drivers and delivery drivers, help move people or things from place to place.

An address tells a mail carrier exactly where to deliver something. Without an address, mail could never find the right home.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Look at a real piece of mail together and find your address on it.
  • Talk about how that piece of mail traveled from wherever it started to your home.
  • Point out different kinds of drivers you see this week -- bus, delivery, mail truck -- and what each one moves.
  • If a mail carrier delivers to your home, wave and say hello together sometime this week.
Talk about it:
  • What is something fun you have gotten in the mail?
  • What driver job would you like to try someday?
  • Why do you think addresses use both numbers and street names?

Mastery looks like: They can describe what mail carriers do and name at least one type of driver and what that driver moves.

Common stumbles: Not yet understanding that an address is what tells a mail carrier exactly where to go is a genuinely new, abstract idea at this age.
