Doctors, Nurses, and Dentists

Describe what doctors, nurses, and dentists each do, and explain why check-ups matter even when you feel fine.

Doctors check your body and help you when you are sick or hurt. Nurses work closely with doctors and take good care of patients.

Dentists check and clean your teeth to keep them healthy. You can visit a doctor or dentist even when you feel completely fine, just for a check-up.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Talk about your child's own last real doctor or dentist visit and what happened there.
  • Reassure your child that check-ups are about staying healthy, not just for when something is wrong.
  • Name a few real tools doctors, nurses, or dentists use and what each one is for.
  • Praise bravery about check-ups, even small bravery, out loud.
Talk about it:
  • What happens at a check-up?
  • Why is it important to see a doctor or dentist even when you feel fine?
  • What is one question you could ask a doctor or dentist?

Mastery looks like: They can correctly describe at least one real thing a doctor, a nurse, and a dentist each do.

Common stumbles: Feeling nervous about naming these jobs because of a hard past visit is common; framing check-ups as staying healthy, not only for being sick, helps.
