Firefighters and Paramedics

Describe the real jobs of firefighters and paramedics and know to call 911 in an emergency.

Firefighters put out fires and rescue people who are in danger. They wear special heavy gear and ride in a fire truck.

Paramedics help people who are hurt or very sick. They often arrive in an ambulance and can give care right on the spot.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Talk through what to do in an emergency: stay calm, tell a grown-up, or call 911 if you are old enough.
  • If possible, visit a real fire station or watch a real video of firefighters or paramedics at work.
  • Point out a fire truck or ambulance if you see one out in the world this week.
  • Reassure your child that these helpers are there to help, not something to be scared of.
Talk about it:
  • Why do firefighters wear special heavy gear?
  • What would you say if you called 911?
  • Have you ever seen a fire truck or ambulance in real life?

Mastery looks like: They can correctly explain the different jobs of firefighters and paramedics and know to call 911 in an emergency.

Common stumbles: Mixing up which vehicle matches which job is common at first; matching the tools, like a hose or a medical bag, to the job helps sort it out.
