My Family: Who Is In It?

Name the members of your own family and recognize that families come in many different shapes.

Every family is different. Some families are big, with lots of people. Some families are small. Some kids live with a mom and a dad, some with one parent, some with grandparents, and some with other grown-ups who love and take care of them.

No matter what a family looks like, families take care of each other. This week you will name the people in your own family.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Help your child draw or name every person in your household, one at a time.
  • Point out that families look different from house to house, and that is perfectly normal.
  • Talk about relatives who live farther away and how your child is still connected to them.
  • Look at a real family photo together if you have one.
Talk about it:
  • Who lives in your home?
  • Who is someone in your family who takes care of you?
  • What do you like to do with your family?

Mastery looks like: They can correctly name the people who live in their home and at least one relative who does not.

Common stumbles: Forgetting a household member or mixing up a pet with a person is common; a gentle recount together fixes it fast.
