Who Helps Us?

Brainstorm and sort community helpers into simple groups, such as safety, health, and learning helpers.

Many people have jobs where their whole job is to help others. This week you will think of as many helpers as you can.

Some helpers keep us safe, some keep us healthy, and some help us learn. There are many different kinds of helpers.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Brainstorm a big list of helpers together on paper and count how many you found.
  • Sort the list into simple groups together, like safety, health, and learning helpers.
  • Gently redirect a fictional-character answer back toward a real job.
  • Ask which helper your child finds most interesting, to set up the next several weeks.
Talk about it:
  • Which helper would you like to be someday?
  • Why do you think we need so many different kinds of helpers?
  • Which helper have you met in real life?

Mastery looks like: They can name at least four different community helpers and describe how each one helps.

Common stumbles: Naming a favorite cartoon or superhero instead of a real job is common; gently steering back to real jobs keeps the brainstorm useful.
