A Map of Our Street

Name and roughly place two or three real landmarks from your own street on a simple map.

A map of your street shows your house and the places near it, like a neighbor's house, a stop sign, or a park.

Landmarks are things you can spot easily, like a big tree or a mailbox, that help you find your way.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Take a short walk or look outside together and point out three or four real landmarks on your street.
  • Sketch a simple street map together afterward, placing the real landmarks you noticed.
  • Talk about which landmark would be easiest for a stranger to spot.
  • Compare your street map to your earlier home map -- notice the street map covers a bigger area.
Talk about it:
  • What is your favorite thing on our street?
  • How would you describe our street to someone who has never seen it?
  • What landmark would help a visitor find our house?

Mastery looks like: They can name and roughly place two or three real landmarks on a simple street map.

Common stumbles: Including imaginary or wished-for items instead of things really on the street is common; a quick look outside together refocuses the map on reality.
