A Map of My Home

Make a simple map of the whole home and use an X to mark and find a hidden object.

You can map your whole home, not just one room. A home map can show the kitchen, the living room, your bedroom, and more.

Maps can also help you find something hidden, like a treasure map. An X often marks the hiding spot.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Draw a simple whole-home map together, labeling each real room.
  • Hide a small item somewhere in the home and mark the spot with an X on the map.
  • Let your child use the map to search for and find the real hidden item.
  • Talk about how the map helped, or where it was confusing, afterward.
Talk about it:
  • How did the map help you find the treasure?
  • What would make the map easier to use next time?
  • What is your favorite room in your home, and where is it on the map?

Mastery looks like: They can use a simple home map with an X to successfully locate a hidden object.

Common stumbles: Holding the map backward compared to the real room is very common; turning the map to match the direction you are facing usually fixes it right away.
