Months and Birthdays

Name the month of your own birthday and the current month, using a calendar.

A year has twelve months. Your birthday happens in the same month every single year.

A calendar shows all twelve months, one at a time or all together, so you can find any month you are looking for.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Look at a real wall or paper calendar together and find your child's birth month.
  • Count forward together from the current month to the birthday month, one month at a time.
  • Mark the actual birthday on this year's calendar together.
  • Talk about one other yearly event and which month it falls in.
Talk about it:
  • What month is your birthday in?
  • What month is it now?
  • What are you looking forward to this year?

Mastery looks like: They correctly name their own birthday month and the current month.

Common stumbles: Mixing up a month name with a day of the week is common at this age; keep the two lists separate and practice each on its own.
