Ninth Grade ยท Math ยท week 35

Final assessment

Demonstrate cumulative Algebra I mastery on a mixed, no-notes assessment, then complete a full error analysis.

This is the year's real measurement, covering everything from week 1 forward in mixed order, under honest conditions: no notes, timed at roughly an hour, no rescuing mid-problem. A score here means something precisely because the conditions are real - treat it the way you treated the term assessments, just wider.

The error analysis afterward matters just as much as the score. For every miss, classify it honestly as a slip, a procedure gap, or a concept gap, and re-solve your worst misses cold the next day. Whatever is still shaky belongs on the mastery ledger headed into Algebra II or Geometry - naming it now is what makes next year's review actually efficient instead of starting from zero.

๐Ÿ“‹ For the grown-up teacher
Teach it (10โ€“15 min):
  • Build the assessment from a mix of Try problems across the entire year with fresh numbers, or request a full-year set from the OS.
  • Keep the conditions real: no notes, roughly an hour, calm room, no hovering or hinting.
  • Grade together immediately so feedback lands while the thinking is still warm.
  • Send the honest results to the mastery ledger - this is exactly what next year's adaptive review will lean on.
Talk about it:
  • Looking back at the whole year, what changed the most about how you approach a new problem?
  • Which term's content still needs the most review going into next year?
  • What would you tell yourself on week 1, knowing what you know now?

Mastery looks like: A cumulative score of 80% or better under honest conditions, plus a complete error analysis with successful cold re-solves on the biggest misses.

Common stumbles: Treating the final as just another test instead of a genuine diagnostic; skipping the re-solve step because the year already feels "over."
