Ninth Grade ยท Math ยท week 11

Term assessment

Demonstrate term-1 mastery on a mixed, no-notes assessment โ€” then own the error analysis.

Assessment week isn't judgment โ€” it's a measurement, the same kind you did in your modeling project, except the phenomenon being measured is your own skills. Do it honestly (no notes, timed at ~45 minutes) so the measurement means something.

The second half of the week matters more than the score: error analysis. For every miss, classify it โ€” careless slip, procedure gap, or concept gap โ€” and re-solve it cold the next day. A wrong answer you can now teach back is worth more than a lucky right one.

Teach it (10โ€“15 min):
  • Build the assessment from the term's Try problems with numbers changed โ€” or ask Claude/the OS for a fresh set.
  • Keep conditions honest but calm: timed-ish, no notes, no hovering.
  • Grade TOGETHER, immediately โ€” feedback while the thinking is warm beats a score tomorrow.
  • The mastery ledger gets the truth: log topics that need review; the adaptive planner will resurface them.
Talk about it:
  • Which topics were automatic? Which needed re-derivation?
  • What kind of errors dominated โ€” slips or concepts?
  • What would you tell someone starting this term?

Mastery looks like: A โ‰ฅ80% mixed performance with honest conditions, plus a completed error analysis with re-solves.

Common stumbles: Cramming the night before instead of spaced review; treating slips as concept failures (or the reverse).
