Building the Multimedia Capstone

Adapt research into a multimedia presentation script, translating written analysis into a few strong slides with a fuller spoken explanation.

The capstone project takes research already done (the week 10-18 research paper is the default source material, though a new topic of genuine interest works too) and rebuilds it as a multimedia presentation -- slides, a short video, or a narrated slideshow -- for a live audience.

Written paragraphs do not become slides by simply copying text onto them. Each slide should carry ONE main idea in very few words, while the fuller explanation lives in what the presenter SAYS aloud. A visual should show something -- a map, a photo, a chart -- that supports the point, not just repeat the spoken words in text form.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Look at a few real, well-designed presentations together and notice how little text actually appears on screen.
  • Help your student resist the urge to "cover everything" -- a capstone highlights a few strong points well, rather than the whole paper.
  • Draft the spoken script alongside the slides, not as an afterthought, so the two genuinely work together.
  • If using an existing research topic, treat this as real re-purposing, not repeating -- the medium change should shape real decisions about what to keep, cut, or show visually.
Talk about it:
  • Which section of your research became your strongest slide, and why?
  • What visual supports that slide's main idea?
  • What will you say aloud that is NOT written on the slide itself?

Mastery looks like: They build a multimedia script with slides carrying one main idea each, supported by visuals, with fuller explanation reserved for spoken delivery.

Common stumbles: Copying full written sentences onto slides instead of distilling each slide to one main idea supported by a visual.
