Unit review: forces and motion

Review and apply speed, acceleration, Newton's three laws, friction/drag, and momentum to mixed problems.

This unit connects through one idea: motion only changes when an unbalanced force acts, and F = m x a is the precise rule for how much. Speed and acceleration describe how motion looks; the three laws explain why it changes; friction, drag, and momentum describe forces in real, messy situations.

A good review habit: for any situation, ask what the motion is doing, what forces are acting and whether they are balanced, and which law or formula explains it. That turns a jumble of formulas into one connected way of thinking.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Run the "motion, forces, which law" three-question routine on two or three real moments from the week.
  • Mix problem types on purpose rather than reviewing one topic at a time.
  • Ask them to teach one law back to you with their own example.
Talk about it:
  • Which of Newton's three laws feels most useful to you so far, and why?
  • How are force, mass, and acceleration connected in one equation?
  • What is one moment this week you can now explain with physics?

Mastery looks like: They choose and apply the right law or formula to a new mixed problem and explain their reasoning.

Common stumbles: Reaching for the wrong formula because a problem "looks like" a different week's topic; forgetting to check whether a force is balanced before deciding motion will change.
