Checkpoint: proportional relationships

Review and demonstrate mastery of proportionality testing, constant of proportionality, percent applications, and scale drawings from weeks 1-8.

This week is a checkpoint -- no new ideas, just making sure the proportional-relationships toolkit is solid: testing a table for proportionality, finding k and the equation y = kx, reading graphs through the origin, percent change, tax/tip/discount, simple interest, and scale drawings.

Work through the mixed set below. If any one type feels shaky, that is exactly the one to revisit using this week's parent questions.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use this week to diagnose, not just drill -- let them try each problem type once, cold, before coaching.
  • If proportionality testing is shaky, return to week 1's "test every pair" habit.
  • If percent or interest problems trip them up, re-anchor with the multiplier shortcut from weeks 4-6.
  • If scale drawings feel shaky, revisit the "1 unit on paper = however many units in real life" table from week 7.
Talk about it:
  • Which of these problem types felt the most automatic? Which needed a hint?
  • Which topic from the last eight weeks do you want more practice on?
  • How does the constant of proportionality connect tables, graphs, and equations together?

Mastery looks like: They correctly solve a mixed set covering proportionality testing, percent applications, and scale drawings with minimal hints.

Common stumbles: Treating the checkpoint as brand-new material and rushing, instead of applying the specific habit each problem type calls for.
