Seventh Grade · Math · week 16

Fluency circuit: all four operations

Build speed and accuracy adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing signed numbers, including fractions and decimals.

This week is a fluency circuit -- no new ideas, just building speed and confidence with everything from the last several weeks: adding and subtracting negatives, multiplying and dividing negatives, and doing it all with fractions and decimals too, not just whole numbers.

Work each "station" the same way every time: identify the operation, apply its sign rule, and compute carefully. Speed comes from trusting the rules, not from rushing past them.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Time a short set of mixed problems and celebrate accuracy first, speed second.
  • Keep a sign-rule reminder visible (same signs = positive, different signs = negative) during this practice week.
  • Mix in fractions and decimals on purpose so the sign rules feel just as automatic there as with whole numbers.
  • If a wrong answer shows up, find the exact step where the sign went wrong rather than just redoing the whole problem.
Talk about it:
  • Which operation (add, subtract, multiply, divide) with negatives still feels the slowest for you?
  • How does working with fractions or decimals change the sign rules, if at all?
  • What is your go-to way to double check a signed-number answer?

Mastery looks like: They compute mixed add/subtract/multiply/divide problems with signed whole numbers, fractions, and decimals accurately and efficiently.

Common stumbles: Rushing past the sign rule instead of applying it deliberately; slowing down on fractions/decimals as if the sign rules were different there.
