Checkpoint: ratios, rates, and percents

Demonstrate fluency with ratios, unit rates, percents, and measurement conversion by solving a mixed set of problems.

This is a checkpoint week - a chance to show everything learned about ratios, rates, and percents working together. There is no new skill today, just practice choosing the right tool.

Before solving, ask: is this a ratio, a unit rate, a percent, or a conversion? Naming the type first helps you pick the right method.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let them work independently first, then check together - checkpoints measure what is automatic.
  • If stuck, ask "which of our four tools does this need?" rather than giving the method away.
  • Note any specific weak spot - ratio setup, percent conversion, or unit-rate direction - for quick review.
  • Celebrate real progress; this ties together eight weeks of work.
Talk about it:
  • Which of the four skills - ratio, rate, percent, conversion - feels most solid to you?
  • Which one still needs practice?
  • How do you decide which tool a word problem needs?

Mastery looks like: They correctly identify which ratio, rate, or percent tool a mixed problem needs and solve it accurately.

Common stumbles: Applying the wrong tool, such as treating a percent problem like a straight ratio; direction errors in unit-rate or conversion problems.
