Literature circle #2

Rotate to a new literature-circle role and apply it to a more challenging chapter book, building on the discussion skills from Literature Circle #1.

Back in Week 8 you tried one literature-circle role. This time, take a DIFFERENT role than before, on a new book or new chapters, and aim for a richer discussion than last time -- you have eight more weeks of reading skills behind you now.

A strong second literature circle also brings in outside skills from this whole unit: cite specific evidence (Week 24), notice author's craft (Week 23), and watch for symbolism (Week 21) as material for your role, not just plot recap.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Insist on a genuinely new role this time -- resist letting them default back to the easy one from Week 8.
  • Ask them to bring in ONE tool from this unit, symbolism, motivation, author's craft, or C-E-E, into their role material.
  • If a real group is not available, keep being the discussion partner, but push harder on follow-up questions this time.
  • Notice out loud if the discussion goes deeper than Week 8 did -- naming growth helps it feel real to them.
Talk about it:
  • What is one way this discussion went deeper than your first literature circle in Week 8?
  • Which unit skill, symbolism, motivation, craft, or C-E-E, did you bring into your role material?
  • What role do you still want to try that you have not done yet?

Mastery looks like: They prepare a new role using at least one analytical skill from this unit, producing a discussion noticeably deeper than the Week 8 attempt.

Common stumbles: Repeating the same role and same level of plot-only discussion as Week 8 instead of building on new skills.
