Synthesis: combine without copying — Homework

Use two sources on the same topic (from your Week 11 research or new ones). Read both, put them away, and write a synthesized paragraph in your own words.

  1. 1.What are your two sources and what does each say, in your own words, one sentence each?
  2. 2.Write a three- or four-sentence synthesized paragraph combining both sources, written without looking at them.
  3. 3.Read your paragraph back. Does any sentence sound too close to a source? Rewrite it if so.
  4. 4.True or false: changing just a few words from a source counts as writing in your own words.
  5. 5.Explain out loud or in writing the main idea of your paragraph as if telling a friend who has not read either source.
