SBAC math review circuit

Review and practice a mixed circuit of fifth-grade skills -- decimals, fractions, volume, coordinate plane, and order of operations -- in a test-like format.

Standardized tests like the SBAC mix questions from the whole year into one sitting, so today is a review circuit -- a lap through many different skills, one or two questions at a time.

The main test-taking skill this week is moving quickly between topics without letting one tricky question throw off your focus on the next.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Time a short mixed circuit -- 8 to 10 quick questions spanning the whole year -- and review misses together right afterward, while the thinking is fresh.
  • If a question type causes a stall, name which unit it came from and do one quick refresher problem from that week's guide.
  • Practice moving on and coming back, a real test strategy: skip a stuck question briefly rather than freezing the whole session.
  • Keep the tone low-stress -- this is practice for the format, not a real high-stakes test.
Talk about it:
  • Which type of question in the circuit felt slowest for you today?
  • What strategy helped you move between different kinds of problems?
  • What would you do differently if you got stuck on a real test question?

Mastery looks like: They can accurately solve a mixed circuit of decimal, fraction, geometry, and order-of-operations problems without one topic derailing the rest.

Common stumbles: Getting stuck on one hard problem and rushing or skipping the rest; carrying a mistake from one problem type into an unrelated one.
