Author's Reasons and Evidence — Homework
Read this passage, then answer: "Every family should try growing a small vegetable garden. First, homegrown vegetables often taste better than store-bought ones, since they are picked at the peak of freshness. Second, gardening gets everyone outside and moving, which is good for both body and mind. Finally, watching a seed grow into food you can actually eat teaches patience and responsibility in a way no lecture ever could. For all these reasons, even a few pots on a balcony are worth trying."
- 1.What is the author's claim?
- 2.List all three reasons the author gives, in your own words.
- 3.Which signal words show where each reason begins?
- 4.Do you find this argument convincing? Explain using at least one specific reason from the text.
