Habitat presentations

Organize and present a complete picture of a chosen habitat, covering its organisms, the needs the habitat meets, one adaptation, and one challenge the habitat faces.

Scientists share their findings with others. This week, pull together everything learned this unit into one presentation about a single habitat of your choice, a forest, desert, ocean, pond, or even your own backyard.

A strong presentation includes four parts: what organisms live there, what needs the habitat meets for them, at least one adaptation you would expect to see in an organism there, and one challenge or change that habitat faces.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Have the child actually present their outline out loud, like a short show-and-tell, even to a stuffed animal audience; saying it aloud helps it stick.
  • Help them choose a habitat they are genuinely curious about, rather than assigning one.
  • Check that all four parts (organisms, needs, adaptation, challenge) are present and connected to the SAME chosen habitat.
  • Ask a real follow-up question after the presentation, as an audience member would.
Talk about it:
  • Which part of your presentation are you most proud of?
  • What is one question you would want to ask a real scientist about this habitat?
  • How does the adaptation you chose connect to the challenge you described?

Mastery looks like: They present a complete, accurate picture of a chosen habitat, covering organisms, needs, one adaptation, and one challenge.

Common stumbles: Listing organisms without connecting them to needs or adaptations, or choosing a challenge unrelated to the actual habitat picked.
