Recognize the defining features of myth (as literature), biography, and drama as genres.
A MYTH is an old traditional story, often from ancient Greece, Rome, or other cultures, told to explain something about nature or teach a cultural lesson -- myths are literature and history, not something anyone believes actually happened today. A BIOGRAPHY is the true story of a real person, written by someone else, covering events from their life. A DRAMA is a story written to be PERFORMED, with character names before their lines and stage directions describing actions.
Each genre looks different on the page. A myth reads like a story with gods, heroes, or explanations for natural events. A biography reads like true facts about a real life, often in order from birth onward. A drama looks like this: CHARACTER NAME, then a colon, then their line of dialogue, sometimes with a stage direction like (walks slowly to the door) in parentheses.
Mastery looks like: They identify whether a short text is a myth, biography, or drama based on its content and formatting clues.
Common stumbles: Confusing a myth with a modern fictional story; missing the character-name-and-colon format that signals a drama script.
