The ×7 facts

Master the ×7 facts by breaking 7 into 5 + 2.

The ×7 facts feel hard, but 7 is just 5 + 2. So 7 × 6 = (5 × 6) + (2 × 6) = 30 + 12 = 42. You split the tricky 7 into two easy facts.

Most ×7 facts you already know from the other side: 7 × 3 is the same as 3 × 7. The only truly "new" ones are 7 × 6, 7 × 7, and 7 × 8.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Emphasize that most ×7 facts are already known from ×2 through ×5 — only a few are new.
  • Practice the 5 + 2 split on paper as two lines that add up.
  • Give 7 × 7 = 49 a little extra love; it has no partner to borrow from.
  • Use fact triangles to fold division in at the same time.
Talk about it:
  • How can splitting 7 into 5 + 2 help?
  • Which ×7 facts are actually new for you?
  • What is 7 × 7?

Mastery looks like: They find any ×7 fact by splitting or by recalling its partner fact.

Common stumbles: Trying to memorize 7s cold instead of splitting; forgetting to add BOTH parts.
