Market day at home

Run a simple pretend market day activity at home applying the kid business plan, goods/services, and trade concepts from this unit.

This week you actually run your business plan, or a simple trade game, as a real "market day" at home. Practice both roles: the seller, offering your product or service and explaining its price, and the buyer, deciding what is worth buying with a limited amount of pretend money.

Running an actual market day, even a small pretend one, makes every idea from this unit -- goods and services, specialization, supply and demand, budgeting, and profit -- feel real instead of just theoretical.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • If more than one family member can play buyer and seller, run a real, short market day together.
  • Give buyers a small, fixed amount of pretend money, so they have to make real budgeting choices, connecting back to week 32.
  • Encourage your child to actually practice both roles, seller and buyer, not just one.
  • Afterward, ask what surprised them about running a real, even if tiny, market.
Talk about it:
  • What was the hardest part of being the seller?
  • What was the hardest part of being the buyer with limited money?
  • What would you change if you ran market day again?

Mastery looks like: They run through both a seller and a buyer role in a market day activity and connect it back to at least one unit concept.

Common stumbles: Only practicing one role, just selling or just buying, missing half of the real economic exchange.
