Author Reading Party

Celebrate the finished book with an author reading party, reading the story aloud to an audience and reflecting on growth as a writer.

This week is a celebration: an author reading party for your finished, bound book. You will read your small-moment story aloud to an audience, showing your illustrations as you go.

You will also look back at the whole year -- paragraphs, opinions, a research report, and now a bound storybook -- and notice how much you have grown as a writer.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Make this a real occasion -- a special seat, a small audience, even a simple certificate for "Author of the Day."
  • Pull out an early piece from the year (the week 5 or week 9 paragraph) to compare side by side with the finished book.
  • Ask genuine, curious questions about the story, the way a proud reader would, not a quiz-giver.
  • Name specific growth you noticed across the year -- organized paragraphs, convincing reasons, grouped research facts, and now a whole illustrated story.
Talk about it:
  • How did it feel to read your finished book out loud to an audience?
  • What is one way your writing has grown the most this year?
  • What do you want to write about next?

Mastery looks like: They read their finished bound book aloud to an audience and describe specific, real ways their writing has grown this year.

Common stumbles: Rushing through the reading too quickly to be understood, or struggling to name specific growth without a side-by-side comparison to point to.
