Earth-changes review

Answer mixed review questions covering fast and slow Earth changes, erosion, Earth materials, and where water is found, using evidence from this unit's investigations.

This unit took you from fast, sudden changes like earthquakes to slow changes like a river carving a canyon over a huge amount of time, then into erosion, barriers that slow it down, Earth materials like sand and soil, and finally where all of Earth's water actually lives.

Today you look back at the whole journey. A good scientist can connect ideas across many weeks, not just remember one lesson at a time, so today is about seeing how fast changes, slow changes, erosion, materials, and water all fit together.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Flip back through this unit's activities, maps, and photos together before answering any review questions.
  • Ask your child to explain one investigation from start to finish: the question, the test, and the result.
  • Review vocabulary together as a quick game: erosion, landform, fast change, slow change, salt water, fresh water.
  • Praise clear explanations that use real evidence from this unit's tests, even if the wording is simple.
Talk about it:
  • Which investigation from this unit did you like best?
  • What is one way people can help slow down erosion?
  • What is the biggest difference between a fast change and a slow change to Earth's surface?

Mastery looks like: They correctly answer mixed review questions covering fast and slow Earth changes, erosion, Earth materials, and water locations, using reasoning from real investigations.

Common stumbles: Confusing fast and slow changes when the examples are outside their original, familiar context; forgetting how the erosion-barrier lesson connects wind and water changes to real, working solutions.
