Civics review game

Review this unit's civics vocabulary and ideas (laws, leaders, voting, courts, services, taxes) through a review game.

This week is a review of everything from the civics unit: why we have laws, the three levels of leaders, voting and elections, what courts do, community services, taxes, and speaking up with a letter.

A great way to review is to turn it into a game -- quiz cards, a scavenger hunt for vocabulary words, or a "teach it back" challenge where you become the teacher for a day.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Make a simple set of review cards together, one question per card, pulled from weeks 19-26.
  • Play a quiz game: take turns drawing a card and answering, or race to answer before a timer runs out.
  • Let your child "teach it back" to you for one topic, fully explaining it as though you had never heard of it.
  • Notice out loud which topics your child explains confidently, and which ones might be worth revisiting.
Talk about it:
  • Which civics idea from this unit do you understand best?
  • Which one would you like to review again?
  • What is one civics idea you could explain to a friend?

Mastery looks like: They can correctly answer review questions across all of this unit's major civics ideas: laws, leaders, voting, courts, services, and taxes.

Common stumbles: Mixing up vocabulary from different weeks (for example, confusing a law with a tax, or a court with an election).
