Finding Your Topic: The Small, True Moment — Homework

Complete at least two brainstorming techniques this week before selecting a working topic.

  1. 1.Name the three brainstorming techniques introduced this week.
  2. 2.Complete a ten-minute freewrite responding to the prompt "a moment I misjudged someone or something," without stopping to correct anything. Attach it.
  3. 3.Complete a listing exercise: twenty quick answers to "something I do that most people do not notice about me."
  4. 4.From your brainstorming this week, name the one moment you are most likely to develop into your essay, and explain in two or three sentences why it is specific enough to work.
  5. 5.Explain in one sentence why brainstorming techniques like freewriting tend to surface better material than trying to think of "the best topic" directly.
