Sum and difference identities — Homework

Break each angle into a sum or difference of 30, 45, or 60 degrees before applying an identity.

  1. 1.Find the exact value of cos(15 degrees) using 15=45-30.
  2. 2.Find the exact value of sin(105 degrees) using 105=60+45.
  3. 3.Find the exact value of tan(75 degrees) using 75=45+30.
  4. 4.Explain why sin(A+B) is generally NOT equal to sin(A)+sin(B), using A=30 degrees and B=60 degrees as a counterexample.
  5. 5.Use the cosine difference formula to find the exact value of cos(pi/12).
