Graphing rational functions, and solving rational equations and inequalities — Homework
Find every graphing piece methodically, and build a sign chart for the inequality rather than cross-multiplying blindly.
- 1.State the domain and both vertical asymptotes of f(x) = (x+3)/(x^2-1).
- 2.Find the x- and y-intercepts of f(x) = (x+3)/(x^2-1).
- 3.Solve (x-1)/(x+4) = 3 for x, and check your answer.
- 4.Solve (x+3)/(x-1) <= 0.
- 5.Explain why x=1 can never be part of the solution set for the inequality in the previous problem, no matter which direction the inequality symbol points.
