Multiplying and dividing rational expressions — Homework

Factor first, then cancel, and track every original denominator for restrictions.

  1. 1.Multiply and simplify: [(x+6)/(x-2)] * [(x-2)/(x^2-36)].
  2. 2.Divide and simplify: [(x^2-9)/(x+4)] / [(x-3)/(x+4)].
  3. 3.Multiply: [(x-5)/(x+8)] * [(x^2-64)/(x-5)].
  4. 4.Explain why domain restrictions come from the ORIGINAL denominators (including ones that end up canceling), not the simplified answer.
  5. 5.Divide: [(x+9)/(x-4)] / [(x+9)/(3x-12)], and simplify.
