Rotations and compositions of rigid motions — Homework

For each composition, complete the transformations in the order given, writing down the intermediate image.

  1. 1.Point E(6, -3). Rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise about the origin. Find E-prime.
  2. 2.Point F(-2, -7). Rotate 180 degrees about the origin. Find F-prime.
  3. 3.Point G(4, 1). First translate (x, y) -> (x - 1, y + 3), then reflect over the y-axis. Find the final image.
  4. 4.Point H(0, 5) lies on the y-axis. Rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise about the origin, then reflect the result over the x-axis. Show both steps and explain why the final point ended up on the x-axis.
  5. 5.Would reversing the order in the problem above (reflect first, then rotate) give the same final image? Check by computing it.
