Checkpoint: Publish Your Report

Choose one informational piece, complete a final edit, and produce a neat published copy as a unit checkpoint.

This week is a checkpoint for informational writing. Choose your favorite piece -- the animal report or the place report -- and get it ready to share.

Run through your editing checklist one more time, then copy your very best version onto a clean page, maybe with your diagram too.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let your child pick which piece to publish -- ownership over the choice builds pride in the final product.
  • Do one calm, unhurried final checklist pass together before any copying begins.
  • Encourage adding the diagram from week 22 alongside the words if it matches the chosen piece.
  • Treat the finished report like a real accomplishment -- display it, photograph it, or add it to a portfolio.
Talk about it:
  • Which report did you choose to publish, and why?
  • What did your final checklist pass catch?
  • How does your published report compare to your very first draft?

Mastery looks like: They select, fully edit, and neatly publish one complete informational piece with a topic sentence, facts, and a closing.

Common stumbles: Skipping the final checklist pass because the piece already went through editing once before.
