Favorite-Book Project

Complete a simple project about a favorite book that shows the character, setting, and main events.

Time to celebrate a book you really love. Pick your favorite book from this year and get ready to share why you love it.

Your project can be a drawing, a short retell, or a poster -- whatever helps you show the characters, the setting, and what happens in the story.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let your child choose the book and the project format, a drawing, a poster, or a spoken retell, themselves.
  • Help only with writing out words or finding materials, not with the ideas -- this project should be their thinking.
  • Ask them to include the character, the setting, and the beginning-middle-end, all three, somewhere in the project.
  • Give the project a real audience -- share it with another family member or a friend.
Talk about it:
  • Why did you choose this book as your favorite?
  • What was your favorite part of making this project?
  • What book do you want to read next?

Mastery looks like: They complete a favorite-book project that clearly shows the character, setting, and main events.

Common stumbles: Focusing only on a drawing without being able to explain the character, setting, or events behind it.
