Culture fair

Present a finished culture fair piece about a family tradition, food, or celebration, and recall one big idea from each unit of the year.

This week is the culture fair: a chance to share what makes your own family or community special, using everything you have learned this year.

A good culture fair piece has a few simple parts: the name of the tradition, food, or celebration, one or two sentences about it, a picture, and the culture or family it comes from.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Help your child finish their culture fair card about the family tradition chosen last week: a name, a sentence or two, a picture, and where it comes from.
  • Let your child actually present it out loud to the family, the way they practiced at the map expo back in week 18.
  • Afterward, take a few minutes to look back over the whole year together: rules and citizenship, maps, symbols, and then-and-now cultures.
  • Celebrate the full year of growth -- from the very first "no rules" thinking game to this final culture fair.
Talk about it:
  • What did you learn this year about being a good citizen?
  • What did you learn this year about maps?
  • What was your favorite thing you learned about, and why?

Mastery looks like: They present a finished culture fair piece clearly and can recall at least one real idea from each of the year's four units.

Common stumbles: Feeling nervous presenting to even a small audience, or being able to describe WHAT a tradition is without explaining WHY it matters.
