Being responsible: my jobs

Identify personal jobs at home and explain why doing a job well helps the whole family.

Being responsible means doing your job, even when nobody is watching and nobody reminds you. Everyone in a family has jobs, including kids.

Your job might be small, like feeding a pet or putting your plate in the sink. Small jobs still matter -- when everyone does their job, the whole family runs smoother.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Make a simple job chart together: list two or three real jobs your child can own this week.
  • Praise the FOLLOW-THROUGH, not just the willingness -- "you did that without me asking twice" matters more than "good job."
  • Let a job be genuinely theirs, even if they do it imperfectly at first. Responsibility grows through practice, not perfection.
  • Talk about how a grownup's job (making dinner, going to work) is just a bigger version of the same idea: someone is counting on you.
Talk about it:
  • What is one job you already do?
  • How do you feel when you finish your job?
  • Who is counting on you to do that job?

Mastery looks like: They can name their own personal jobs and explain, in their own words, how each one helps the family.

Common stumbles: Needing frequent reminders to start a job, or thinking a "job" only counts if a grownup is watching.
